National Geographic- Landscape Photography

Lava Cauldron, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Photograph by: Carsten Peter

I choose this photograph because of the vibrant colors. I love the bright yellow clouds of gas as it fades into orange. The overall composition is really nice and interesting. I like the angle at which the photograph is shot because you can see that the whole volcano is active and that the lava boiling in the middle. My eye goes directly to the center of the volcano, which looks like the main focus of the photograph. The details are very clear and I think the colors make the whole image stand out very sharply.

Mood Music - Album Covers

Original

Edit

This is an album cover for 'Young and Beautiful' by Lana Del Rey. I choose this image because I think the vibrant and glittery colors of the mask fit the style of music.  It gives it an elegant old fashioned type of look. The symbolism behind the mask fits the mood as well. I got inspired to use this song from the movie The Great Gatsby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol6WLWNhWjk

This is an album cover for the song 'I'm Just A Kid' by Simple Plan. I choose this image because I think this fits perfectly with the mood of the song. The contrast colors in the background and the boy standing in the middle of the hallway fits this punk/alternative style of the song. He seems lost and is trying to figure out what direction he should go in.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GOR5gvQwDI

Mood Music

The mood and message of the music this album evokes is influenced by music from the 60s or 70s, along with pop and punk music from the 90s. This electronic music gives a different feeling to the audience. The artist definitely tries out different moods and musical textures in each of the songs.  The album is both uplifting and lamenting.

My Experience

I think assigning us to smaller groups and discussing our photographs was a great idea. It definitely is a better way of communicating with others in the class. When we work in small groups I feel like it is a better opportunity for people to give personal feedback, whether is positive or negative responses. The people in my group said they liked the overall story I captured and how they got a sense of what it was like to be in the city. There are a few changes they said I can make for two of my photographs, but I necessarily don't agree with them because that's how I wanted to capture and edit the photograph to get that particular mood.
